Copyright - Overview
Copyright right is a property right which arises automatically in the
following types of work:
 |
Original literary works which have been recorded, including tables,
compilations and computer programs. |
 |
Original dramatic works which have been recorded. |
 |
Original musical works which have been recorded. |
 |
Original artistic works, namely:
 |
Graphic works (such a paintings, drawings, diagrams, maps, charts,
engravings, etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and similar), photographs,
sculptures (including sculpture casts or models) and collages, all
irrespective of artistic quality; |
 |
Architectural works in the form of a building, part of a building or
model thereof; and |
 |
Works of artistic craftsmanship. |

Sound recordings. |
 |
Films (including videos). |
 |
Broadcasts and cable programmes. |
 |
Typographical arrangements of published editions. |
For a limited period of time, the owner of the
copyright can take legal action to prevent:
 |
Unauthorised copying of the work; |
 |
Unauthorised issuing to the public of copies of the
work; |
 |
Unauthorised public performance of the work, in the
case of a literary, dramatic or musical work; |
 |
Unauthorised broadcasting or inclusion in a cable
programme of the work, in the case of a literary, dramatic or musical
work, sound recording, film, broadcast or cable programme; |
 |
Recording an adaptation of the work, in the case of a
literary, dramatic or musical work. |
Copyright does not give the owner the right to stop
others dealing in a work which, although similar, has been created
independently without copying. |
